POLL – Changes at Galileo

As students are welcomed back to Galileo this year, they are welcomed back with many changes. From additions to the courtyard, to new teachers and staff, to new policies, this school year is full of adjustments that have an impact on our environment. The Galileo Press interviewed various staff and students around the school to ask, “Which of those changes has been the most impactful and why?”

“Courtyard furniture. I like seeing people rocking in the rocking chairs and being outside”- Mr. Moir
“(More students are) using the courtyard to gather. It seems much more welcoming when you walk in. The hallways also look better with more kids going to class.”- Ms. Ly
“Homeroom. It was something we tried years ago that originally failed. But this time, with administration providing structure, it has the potential to be a meaningful experience.” – Mr. Mendrebil.
“The AI slop on the walls. It’s very disturbing to have a school with such a fabulous art program be taken over by AI generated posters in the name of convenience and lack of student involvement, specifically the poster by the main office that could have been made by students.”- Claire C., 12th grade
“Influx of security. It’s much more challenging for kids to skip class and/or loiter because of constant surveillance. The school feels much more secure.” -Cormac K., 12th grade
“The new principal. It is interesting to see the different changes made since she arrived” – Amber L., 11th grade
“Homeroom. Going over announcements has been helpful so I’ll actually know what’s new and going on around our school” – Janice T., 10th grade
