The Galileo Lioness Flag Football team turned a tough start of a 3 game week into a 2 game winning week, spanning from October 10th through 16th. The Lioness started by dropping a tough game against Washington 6-0 on October 10th, but were able to bounce back, winning against John O’Connel due to forfeit, on October 14, then dominating ICA 27-7 On October 16. The wins helped the 6th place Lioness even their record to 2-2.
In the game against the Eagles, the Lioness defense held the Eagles scoreless in the first half, leaving the game tied 0-0 at halftime, but the defense couldn’t hold Washington down the entire game as the Eagles scored the only touchdown in the second half & the offense couldn’t match with a score of their own.
One reason the Lioness had trouble scoring was because they were playing without one of their starters at a key position. Senior captain & quarterback Ella R. said the team was down to their 3rd string snapper & that high snaps affected the team’s offense. Other players felt like the team just wasn’t ready to play. Junior Isabella N. said, “I just feel like the energy wasn’t all the way there.”
The Lioness were scheduled to face John O’Connell High School on October 14, but O’Connell had to forfeit due to not having enough players. Junior Aeris Y. said on how she felt on the forfeit, “I feel like it was disappointing that John O’Connel forfeited because we were looking forward to playing against them, even though we got the win, I would’ve rather earned it by actually playing on the field”
The Lioness then finished off the week with a dominating win against ICA 27-7 on October 16th. The Lions struggled on offense again in the 1st half, being held scoreless, but in the 2nd half, the Lioness were able to score 4 touchdowns, 2 by junior receiver Aeris Y. The Lioness were happy with how the 2nd half ended up, with Ella saying, “The defense started getting picks, and the offense was making touchdowns and getting more yards.”
